Prepare for Maryland Sign Language Licensure at CCBC

As Maryland's ASL interpreter profession continues to evolve, the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) is helping interpreters take the next step toward licensure and career advancement through its Interpreter Advancement Initiative.

Supported by a $150,000 Maryland Employment Advancement Right Now (EARN) grant, CCBC offers specialized training designed to help current and aspiring interpreters meet Maryland's licensure requirements and strengthen the state's workforce of qualified sign language interpreters.

The initiative supports up to 250 interpreters with exam preparation, professional development opportunities and assistance with testing costs helping more professionals achieve the credentials needed for licensure.

This investment strengthens Maryland's interpreter workforce while expanding access to critical communication services for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals across the state. Licensed interpreters play an essential role in healthcare settings, educational institutions, court proceedings, government agencies and other environments where effective communication and accessibility are required.

By combining industry-driven training, workforce development funding and a commitment to accessibility, CCBC is helping interpreters advance their careers while meeting a growing statewide need for qualified professionals.
