Strengthening Maryland's Workforce

Maryland strong!

CCBC supports our community with advanced workplace certificates to strengthen the workforce.

To meet today's workforce challenges, more than 250 small and large businesses and organizations annually turn to CCBC as the training partner they can trust. These firms have discovered that CCBC can provide a team of experts — specialists in health care, information technology, law enforcement, public safety, business, management and more — who stand ready and able to deliver responsive and realistic business solutions.

For nearly three-quarters of a century, CCBC has demonstrated its strong commitment to strengthening the region's economy by providing versatile, customized training to support the changing needs of a dynamic workforce.

CCBC is taking a comprehensive approach to increase the enrollment, retention and graduation in STEM education.

Job opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields are growing fast. Yet, the majority of U.S. students, particularly low-income and minority students, lack foundational skills and knowledge in STEM. To address these challenges, CCBC is taking a comprehensive approach to increase the enrollment, retention and graduation in STEM education. We believe that our approaches — creating a pipeline for high school students, and providing scholarships and wrap-around supports — maximize students’ potential for success.

CCBC is expanding educational opportunities for low skilled and at-risk individuals seeking training and support services that will prepare them to enter and succeed in good jobs and advance along career pathways.

Low-skilled and at-risk individuals — those with limited English proficiency, at-risk-youth, and ex-offenders — are doubly disadvantaged in today’s workforce.CCBC is interested in expanding educational opportunities for low skilled and at-risk individuals seeking training and support services that will prepare them to enter and succeed in good jobs and advance along career pathways.

Meeting the demand for high growth industries

CCBC is helping students parlay prior work experience into meaningful credentials and longer-term degree programs that generally have a higher economic payoff. Routine jobs are giving way to work environments that require higher-level communication and analytical skills and students are seeking postsecondary credentials to maintain position in the labor market, advance to better jobs and keep pace with the continually changing economy.

In Maryland those industries include manufacturing, health care, hospitality, technology, and transportation, which represent the largest number of workforce opportunities in the State and mirror the workforce needs of the Baltimore region.

CCBC is helping students leverage prior work experience into meaningful credentials and longer-term degree programs through Credit Prior Learning (CPL) assessments and stackable credentials.

Offering unique statewide programs

The Maryland Higher Education Commission designates certain community college programs as statewide programs. Many of these programs are not offered at other community colleges.

CCBC continues to expand and enhance these programs to meet the ever changing needs of Maryland’s workforce.

Strengthening the health care workforce

CCBC’s School of Health Professions (SHP) is expanding and modernizing its facilities and increasing the number of full-time faculty to increase enrollment capacity to meet heavy demand. We are already the largest provider of undergraduate health care training in the state of Maryland. To sustain our programs, we need a coordinated approach to foster innovation, community engagement, enlightened leadership and resource development.
