Meg, a communication and media studies major, is enjoying free-tuition, honors classes and more at CCBC.

Meg is a driven CCBC Honors College student pursuing an associate degree in communication and media studies. Meg has discovered a vibrant academic community that prioritizes both affordability and excellence. She credits the college’s tuition-free opportunities with making her educational dreams possible.

Meg has particularly benefited from a College Promise scholarship, a last dollar-in scholarship available to students at Maryland community colleges. Eligible students can receive up to $5,000 to cover any remaining tuition and mandatory fee expenses after federal or state financial aid has been applied.

"I love CCBC’s affordability,” said Meg. “I would never be able to go to college without the College Promise scholarship.

With her tuition taken care of, Meg was free to explore her options before declaring a major. A passion for understanding how others communicate ignited within her honors humanities courses. She describes her instructors as extremely helpful people who genuinely care about their students’ success.

“Professor Heather Harris changed my life with her teaching,” shared Meg, who names her English classes as her favorite part of attending CCBC.

In addition to enjoying the robust academics, including enrolling in the CCBC Honors College, Meg encourages others to immerse themselves in the CCBC experience. She exalts the many activities and resources available that can help each student become “the best version of you.” In Fall 2024, she assisted CCBC’s Department of Marketing and Communications as a social media intern, gaining job experience that complements her education.

Now on the path to earning an associate degree before transferring to a four-year university, Meg is proud of the path that she has taken.

“Do not listen to what anyone says about community college. It is great,” said Meg. “Getting to take honors classes is my favorite. I think I’m learning more than some of my friends who attend four-year universities!”

Meg is one of CCBC’s 2024-2025 Fresh Faces student representatives.
